Digital Inclusion and Disability

The use of technology is  use to communicate has became an essential and socially acceptable aspect of most people lives and its becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish between the digital world and real world .Hence digital inclusion is an increasingly important social issue reflecting imperatives ,opportunities , and consideration about human rights ,equity issues of identity ,language and social participation ,community and civic engagement and opportunities pertaining to digital world .There are several components to creating accessible digital information to ensure that people with disabilities are not left but engagement is key to furthering both inclusion and knowledge accessibility .It is also essential that people with disability have opportunities to share knowledge and present their vision ,goals and strategies for enhancement of mechanism of digital accessibility . People with disabilities need opportunities to discuss strategies and mechanism for tackling ongoing challenges that continue to hinder expansion of inclusive E-government platforms for people with disabilities at local ,national ,regional, and international levels .At present when it comes to technology and innovation people with disabilities are left behind .Given the prevalence of digital tools and resources in our day to day lives inaccessibility of these resources mean that people with disabilities will continue to be left behind . However ,many factors influence lack of access to technology.

Around one billion people are persons with disabilities. Digital inclusion is crucial for person with disabilities to reduce the digital divide. Some of the practices that can be used for digital inclusion

To reach the need of person with data should be collected and analyzed to understand the gaps, barrier and requirements. Diversity should be embraced at all levels with policies strategies and business plans. Products should be designed according to person with disabilities and affordable also

Disability as defined by CDC is “any condition of the body or mind (impairment) that makes it more difficult for the person with the condition to do certain activities (activity limitation) and interact with the world around them (participation restrictions)”(1). This paper (2) discusses the opportunities, barriers and recommendations for the role of digital inclusion in overcoming disability related stigma.
