Studies indicate that for students to thrive academically it is of importance to promote wellness cultures that prioritise wellbeing as a value. This is of importance as findings indicate that there was a rapid spike of anxiety and depression in 2020, 76% of students surveyed said they struggle to maintain their wellbeing, as does 73% of staff in 10 countries including UK, USA and Nordic Countries. Students struggling with mental health are twice as more likely to drop out (World Economic Forum, 2022).

Across the world various strategies to ensure student well-being has been adopted. For instance: At Wake Forest University and Ohio State University, student wellness centres have created models that guarantee students' wellbeing on a variety of levels, including the emotional, physical, social, academic, and financial ones. Also there exist other digital mental health services like Wysa  an AI chatbot that employs evidence-based cognitive-behavioural techniques (CBT) to make you feel heard along with professional human support (World Economic Forum, 2022).

Kindly share your thoughts on strategies employed in Educational Institutes or Government bodies to ensure student well-being across the globe.

This is an interesting viewpoint on wellbeing. Wellbeing is the talk of the century. It features among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the UN in 2015. The Goal 3 reads "To ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages."

Looking past physical well-being, mental well-being has been given much open thought throughout the world especially in the wake of a pandemic. A vulnerable group are students across all ages. With regard to student well being, it is especially important now for those students who have performance anxiety among group settings. After two to three years of pandemic learning environment, they now return to in school training. This psychological impact on wellbeing should be highlighted on. A good way is to integrate Wellbeing protocols in school systems. The Government of India and The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Human Resource and Development, with technical guidance from UNICEF, launched the School Health and Wellness Programme in February 2020. This comprehensive programme aims to reach 260 million schoolchildren and their families by 2030 with school-based health and nutrition interventions. Integrations like this across schools and colleges and research among them is the need of the hour.

UNESCO has identified two strategic priorities:

1. To ensure that all children and young people benefit from good quality, comprehensive sex education that includes HIV education

2. Ensure that all children and young people access safe, inclusive, health-promoting learning environments.

Well-being is defined as students' reduced stress, increased experienced meaning and engagement in the classroom, and, ultimately, increased life satisfaction. Through the mentioned research study, the authors investigated whether semester-long classroom interventions could influence these aspects of student well-being.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends multi-level mental health intervention in schools. Recognizing this the Government of India launched the school health and wellness program in 2020. It was implemented in government and government aided schools, where every school had 2 health and wellness ambassadors (one male and female teachers) trained to deliver health promotion and disease prevention information with school children in the form weekly activities.

In Nepal, a comprehensive physical education curriculum has been made and implemented and caters to the needs of all students, regardless of their physical ability or skill level. The curriculum is diverse and providing students with a variety of physical activities and sports to choose from. This has supported  to keep students engaged and motivated to participate in physical education.

The concept of well-being in this research article refers to students' decreased levels of stress, increased levels of meaning and engagement in the classroom, and, ultimately, increased levels of life satisfaction. The authors looked into how these aspects of students' well-being might be impacted by deliberate, semester-long classroom interventions. Strengths and weaknesses of the research are explored, as well as the significance of these findings for management education research and practice.

In response to the topic starter, different countries adopt various methods to improve the mental health and well-being of their people. Also, I agree with Ms.Mehak Chopra that a needs assessment is important to formulate any program related to mental health and well-being beforehand. Considering India, as the country bears differences in culture, geography, etc, the need for assessment holds a particular position. In our country, Health comes under the State list.

In Kerala, there are many initiatives have been launched to address mental health issues and the need for well-being over the years. Those have been aided by intersectoral and inter-departmental coordination such as the health sector, Social sector, educational sectors, Social Justice Dept, Human Resource Dpt, Home dpt, etc.

The targetted population was not only the school-going children of various age groups,specially-abled children but also their parents.

Counselors, JPHN, and teachers have been trained for the program accordingly. The possibility of digital intervention was being used. For instance,

"Dial A Doctor" with the support of the Health Dept, particularly for exam-going children. Support was given as Telephonic support and counseling.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of challenges facing implementation sustainably like lack of rigor in stated objectives of the existing programs, manpower-related issues, lack of evaluation of program processes and outcomes, etc. The existing lack of coordination between programs leads to limitations in their efficiency.
