Networking can be a key strategy in advancing educational quality in Public Health in India. Lancet Commission on Education of Health Professionals also strongly recommends establishing networks and partnerships to bring changes to professional education and enhance health. Networking can prove to be a useful tool for improving knowledge, management, and sharing in public health. Also, it may help with system transformation and the expansion of organizational and professional capabilities (Zodpey & Sharma, 2013).

In India, the Institutional level of networking includes the South East Asia Public Health Education Institutions Network (SEAPHEIN) which has been developed and promoted under the stewardship of the World Health Organization's South-East Asia Regional Office (WHO-SEARO). The Indian Chapter of the same was established in 2020 with the mission to collaborate with Indian member institutes to improve partnerships and sustain the quality of public health education to address the relevant public health challenges (Zodpey & Sharma, 2013).

Kindly share your thoughts on the importance of networking in the public health context and the steps taken by institutes to create a network of public health professionals in India.

Benefit to networking  was typically in the form of meeting organisational objectives (for example, protecting the public health in the case of the government and the World Health Organisation), publications and follow-on grants (a benefit especially important for academic players), generating resources for ongoing programmatic work (often important for the non-governmental players), and direct financial reward (especially for private for profit organisations). However, the factors that motivated nodes to activate into a network were quite different for each of the networks involved in the different placements. An important learning from the projects was that the barriers to network development need to be managed closely to ensure network success. The thesis demonstrates that networks need to be carefully facilitated to be an effective tool in public health practise. Therefore, public health practitioners will require networking skills for successful public health leadership and practise. These skills should be valued and imbibed in our public health workforce.

Immediate collaborative efforts could be directed towards designing and adaptation of competency-driven frameworks suitable for addressing public health challenges of 21 st century, shifting the current focus of curriculum to a multidisciplinary public health outlook, developing accreditation mechanisms for both the programs and institutions, engaging in creating job opportunities and designing career pathways for public health professionals in the public and private sector.

Public health education development calls for networking which entails collaboration, synergy, and sharing of resources and ideas. In India, the South East Asia Public Health Education Institutions Network- SEAPHEIN supported by WHO-SEARO encourages schools to partner to offer high-quality education and solve the health problems. These augments exchange of knowledge conduces to transformation of systems, effectively building professional capacities. Yet, continuing restraints include adequate recurrent financing and integration of the curriculum. Despite this, networking remains a key strategy for strengthening public health education in India.
