June 25, 2026 – Under the initiative “Public Health Through the Lens of the Youth,” the fifth school we visited was Kisanrao More High School, Sarvade, Kolhapur, where our visit was yet another inspiring and memorable experience, providing an opportunity to engage with enthusiastic students eager to learn about public health and their role in creating healthier communities.
Dr. Ashish Joshi, Dean and Distinguished University Professor, University of Memphis School of Public Health, introduced students to the Public Health in Action curriculum. He explained the importance of Public Health education and how this initiative will help them become active contributors to the health and well-being of themselves, their families, schools, and communities. The establishment of Public Health Clubs in schools can nurture socially responsible, health-conscious young leaders who can drive positive change in their communities.
An engaging interactive session introduced students to the concept of public health and encouraged them to reflect on their role in building healthier communities. Discussions focused on healthy lifestyles, responsible use of technology, the importance of adequate sleep and regular physical activity, and how individual actions collectively contribute to community well-being. The students’ enthusiasm was truly inspiring, with thoughtful participation and meaningful discussions throughout the session.
Four students from classes VIII and IX were selected to establish and lead the Public Health Club in their school, marking the beginning of a student-led movement towards healthier schools and communities.
We sincerely thank the Principal, teachers, and the Kolhapur district administration for their continued support and commitment to empowering young people through public health education.
