June 25, 2026 – Under the initiative “Public Health Through the Lens of the Youth,” the seventh and eighth schools visited were Shivraj Vidyalaya and Murgud Vidyalaya, Murgud, Kolhapur, where the school administrations extended a warm welcome.
Dr. Ashish Joshi, Dean and Distinguished University Professor, University of Memphis School of Public Health, introduced students to the Public Health in Action curriculum. He explained to the students the importance of Public Health education and how this initiative will help them become active contributors to the health and well-being of themselves, their families, schools, and communities. How the establishment of Public Health Clubs in schools can nurture socially responsible, health-conscious young leaders who can drive positive change in their communities.
An engaging interactive session introduced students to the concept of public health and encouraged them to reflect on their role in building healthier communities. Discussions focused on healthy lifestyles, responsible use of technology, the importance of adequate sleep and regular physical activity, and how individual actions collectively contribute to community well-being. The enthusiasm of the students at both schools was truly inspiring, with thoughtful participation and meaningful discussions throughout the sessions.
Six students of class IX and X were selected to establish and lead the Public Health Club at Shivraj Vidyalaya, while four students of class IX were selected to establish and lead the Public Health Club at Murgud Vidyalaya, marking the beginning of a student-led movement towards healthier schools and communities.
We sincerely thank the Principals, teachers, and the Kolhapur district administration for their continued support and commitment to empowering young people through public health education.
