Recently, the Center for PH-IDEAS, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded project, a collaboration between MEMPHIS AND SHELBY COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT and University of Memphis School of Public Health, organized its first Meet-and-Greet social and hosted 18 scholars from the SCHD. Through this program, current health department employees will be trained and educated in public health to support public health workforce efforts here at the SCHD.

18 students from the Shelby County Health Department are now enrolled in the School of Public Health to pursue education in Social and Behavioral Sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Health Analytics, matriculating through certificate, Masters, and Doctoral programs.

Dr. Ashish Joshi, PhD,MBBS,MPH, Dean of the UofM School of Public Health, welcomed the students and assured them of all the support that the scholars would need to ensure their success as students. He was joined by Dr. Michelle Taylor, MD, DrPH, MPA, Director of the SCHD, gave her remarks to the scholars and highlighted the importance of a trained public health workforce in the Shelby County Health Department.

Dr. Nichole Saulsberry-Scarboro, faculty advisors and staff all welcomed the scholars into the School of Public Health, encouraging and supporting them and making the scholars aware of all the resources they have available to them to succeed.
